Hospitality Staff Philippines, Inc. (HSPI)

The go-to recruitment firm for Filipinos eyeing careers in the international hospitality sector is now taking on an even greater challenge: To provide opportunities to other Filipino professionals in different industries as well.

Hospitality Staff Philippines, Inc. took only four years to establish a reputation for successfully deploying Filipinos in the hospitality industry abroad. Now it is venturing into even more competitive and demanding fields where Filipino expertise and skills are going to be equally big assets.

Established in 2003 and granted a license to recruit Filipinos for overseas jobs in 2005, HSPI has sent Filipino expatriates to waiting jobs in the hospitality industry in various destinations—the U.S., Australia, China, India, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Maldives, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Fiji Islands, and Palau. HSPI is currently working to be able to send Filipinos to Canada, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Libya, and Lebanon.

Breaking new ground
After four years of successful recruitment, HSPI in 2007 made an exciting and welcome move—it expanded its recruitment services to cover overseas jobs in the technology, education, engineering, and homecare sectors.

HSPI revealed a three-pronged approach to becoming a leader in Philippine recruitment. One, the company takes an integrated approach, providing both clients and applicants any recruitment information they require. Crucial to this system is a 24/7 portal, which allows all processes from initial screening of applicants to job offers and actual deployment to be accessible to clients anytime, anywhere.

Two, on the intangible side, HSPI upholds three core values—excellence, passion, and service—to ensure the success of every recruitment project. Three, on the practical level, it is forging alliances with reputable industry consultants and service providers to deepen its knowledge of the industry and boost the services it offers, which include:
  • Executive placements for Filipinos and expatriates
  • Managerial/Supervisory placements
  • Rank-and-file placements
  • Organizational planning and development
  • Training and development for all job levels
  • Hotel, resort and restaurant management services
  • Formulation of policies and procedures
  • Formulation of departmental standards of performance
  • Staff climate surveys
  • Compensation and benefits design
  • Human resources information systems design
  • International apprenticeship
At the helm
Leading HSPI is President and CEO Victor Fabregas Alcuaz, who was the pioneer human resources director of the first Shangri-La Hotel in the Philippines, the EDSA Shangri-La Manila. Before that, he was director of human resources at the Hyatt Regency Manila. His career in the service industry started in 1973 when he became a member of an international flight crew and, later, crew trainer and audio-visual officer of the Philippine Airlines.

Alcuaz is also president and CEO of Star Events Inc., a television and concert production firm. He is an active member of the Association of Human Resources Managers in the Hospitality Industry (AHRM), of which he was president in 1987 and 1995-1997. In 2006 he was chairman of the Mabuhay Awards, the organization’s annual service excellence awards program.
